  • Backpacks

All items are being collected in the Narthex outside of the Sanctuary through August 29.  Or, folks may donate monetary support as well by marking the memo lline on your check with the words "School Drive" and submitting it during the offering in worship.  For further information, please contact Ken Probst, school drive coordinator.

Volunteers in Mission Return from Brazil

The newest mission partner in relationship with the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, the 170,000-member Methodist Church of Brazil, is a dynamic and growing community with a clear sense of mission and purpose.  However, the challenge they face is great: since the 1980s, tens of millions of Brazilians have migrated to urban areas, where acute economic distress has created in this vast South American nation the greatest number of "street children" in the world.  The Brazilian government has proved unable to contain this humanitarian crisis, or to direct sufficient resources to families living at subsistence levels in the interior.

Arlington UMC sent a team of adults and youth to work with the "Shade and Fresh Water Project" in Belo Horizonte from August 29 - September 7, 2009.  While serving with this project, team members helped to paint four buildings, put on a roof, and worked with about 100 children with this important after-school program.  To learn more about the work accomplished, please read the blog posts

Feeding the Homeless

Did you know that on the last Monday of every month we partner with the Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network (ASPAN) to serve bagged meals to the homeless in our community?  If you would like to either help make sandwiches or deliver them, please sign up during worship or contact, Julie Froom, 703-379-9036.  This is a great way for entire families, small groups, or friends to volunteer together with a minimal time commitment and a big sense of accomplishment.

An Invitation from the Outreach Team

Would you like to find out more about outreach ministries at Arlington UMC?  The outreach team will meet for lunch after church on the first Sunday of every other month.  For more info, contact Julie Froom at 703-379-9036.

If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well: keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by actions, is dead.James 2:16-17
